Huh? No she didn't, she claimed abstinence was unrealistic. Abstinence only is a method, not the act. Abstinence isn't realistic really, sure there's a few exceptions, but it doesn't work at all - and it ticks me off to know end when these religious folk push that to be put in our schools.

Going back and reading, I think R13 is confusing abstinence with the rhythm method.
The rhythm method does utilize abstinence during certain times of a woman's cycle, but it's not true abstinence. True abstinence is simply not having sex at any time, not just avoiding it during a woman's most fertile times. Add to that, the rhythm method is a very poor method of birth control. No woman's body operates perfectly enough to utilize this as 100% effective. Teen girls' bodies especially arent regular enough to use the rhythm method.

I'm giving you a hard time R13, but I think both abstinence and safe sex should be taught if it is going to be in schools. In reality though it should be TCO in the home. Abstinence is the only 100% foolproof option, but I agree, everyone isn't going to do that. Of course, not everyone is going to use rubbers either.

Where in the world did I say that? I'm saying that it is only effective becaus it assumes the kids will abstain, since that's not going to happen, it's basically no effective - definitely not enough to be taught.
